South America

By Czar C.

The South American continent is a very interesting place. It has a population of 385,742,554 which is only the 5th most populated continent in the world. One country in South America that I found interesting was Chile: 80% mountains, 100% fantastic! Even though Chile is a very mountainous country it is still highly populated  -- 16,136,000 people. Chile extends like a ribbon down the west coast of South America for over 4,000 kilometers—but averages only 150 kilometers wide. The most commonly spoken language in Chile is Spanish. These are some statistics about Chile.

Games and how you’re affected

By Emily G.

When you’re playing a game you’re probably thinking, hey it’s not going to affect my grade, well it will! Spending too much time on the computer or a game system will start to affect you; you’ll start to see that your grades will drop only because you’re just playing a game. Think of it this way, you come home from school and you say, “I’ll do my homework later, I’m going to get on my favorite role-playing game.” Truly, you’ll forget all about your homework and never do it and when you get to school you’ll be saying that you wish you had done your homework first before you got on a game. See, the problem is with new advanced technology, kids are less focused in class; they have I-phones or I-pads and I-touch (all that fancy stuff) and they are not learning, and when they get home, it’s the same as always -- “I’ll do my homework later.” You have to start paying attention or your grades will fall!!!!

The Star Spangled Banner History

By Emily G.

The star spangled banner was created by Mary Young Pickers Gill, when she made the flag she was ask to make to flags a lager flag and a small flag for bad weather, she was also ask to sow  15 star and 15 stripes, because that was the number of states in the union. The flag was made because the Americans hope that the huge flag would be visible to the English fleet and that it would also lift the spirits of the Baltimoreans. Allowing them to see this flag fly in defiance of the British. In September 14, 1814 the flag was still waving in the breeze after twenty-five hours of heavy bombardment by the British. The British were so discouraged to see the Star Spangled Banner still there!  The flag we have to day the thirteen stripes represent the 13 original colonies Of the United States and the 50 star represent the 50  states in the union, the red, white, & blue stand for the blood the was shed for freedom, purity or purpose, and loyalty to the cause of freedom.
